Not up to the standards of the first book
In this third installment in the Dr. Temperance Brennan series, there are biker gangs in Montreal, and they are killing each other. Most of it happens in Montreal, which is an improvement over the bopping around in previous books.
The story is interesting, and Reichs is still above average.
Some of the characters are fast becoming clichés. And if you don't figure out a sub-plot (spoiler alert!) about her love interest being a dirty cop, you need to take Mystery Fiction 101 again. Temperance also gets to play Mommy again, this time to a nephew, but it isn't particularly exciting. More of a Scarpetta rip-off. Again, too, Reichs plays fast and loose with a couple of clues that make Brennan look like an idiot to any intelligent reader and really detracts from the story. The final ending is almost surreal, and reads more like a script for an action TV-series than reliable fiction.
I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review. I am not personal friends with the author, nor do I follow her on social media.

Much to do about so very little. I grew to dislike Temperance's nephew Kit who comes across as spoiled and arrogant. He is a significant character in the story so that turned me off. There is a lot of interweaving pedantry involving bones of all kinds and a vicious biker gang war. Far too many characters to keep in mind. It seemed that Temperance was more of an observer than an actor who made a difference in the outcome. Hard for me to set aside a book when I reach page 300. With this book I should have stopped reading before I begun.

Can't get enough of this author but this book dragged a little bit. A great read none the less.

An ok entry in the Temperance Brennan series. Tempe is involved in a task force dealing with the doings of outlaw motorcycle gangs. We also get to meet her sister Harry's son Kit. As usual the book has the little "lectures" about various topics. Those are the only downfalls of these books. They just go on a little too long. Ok some bikers are bad. Ok blood splatter is revealing. Most people these days follow real crime and tv crime enough to know that various techniques exist for forensic analysis. We don't really need the minute details. The only really negative thing about this book is that Tempe's co-worker/friend/possible more-than-friend, Andrew Ryan gets sort of written out of this book. It's like the author didn't want to deal with their relationship story-arc and so awkwardly put Ryan out of the book. Probably could skip this one and not lose anything of the overall story
