Beautifully developed characters, across the board. Delicious unfolding of plot. Rush of Blood is called a “novel” on the cover, and indeed the quality of writing and depth of characterization is novel-worthy. It could as well have been labeled a “thriller” or “psychological thriller.” One quibble: The editors at Little Brown (or Atlantic Monthly) should have picked up on several Britishisms spoken by Americans; for example, the Sarasota (Florida) cop who says “I might have done” instead of “I might have.”
